Hawk Fish Review
For the marine enthusiast the Hawkfish of the family Cirrhitidae form an interesting group of hardy aquarium subjects with an unusual habit of resting on rocks and coral heads to await their
feeding time. Not for the Hawkfish the relentless swimming to and fro of the usual marine
aquarium inhabitant. The Hawkfish is content to sit on a coral branch using the spiny first rays of
it's pectoral fins to gain purchase to enable it to watch the world go by. When it does
eventually deign to move it proceeds by a series of hops rather than swimming, takes what food
is offered and then returns to it's vantage point to wait. This habit of perching has given rise to
its common name of Hawkfish but like it's namesake it will drop down on smaller tank
companions if they are small enough to serve as a meal.
