Oryzias -the Rice Fishes Review
Oryzias the Rice Fishes covers 27 species in the genus. Whilst in the aquarium world only two or possibly three species are to be found scientists are still discovering and naming new species, the last one was named in 2010.
The common Rice fish (Oryzias latipes) which has also been called the Medaka, and the Geisha Girl fish has been kept in aquariums since 1895. The common Rice fish, usally found in the trade as the golden variety, is easy to breed and a description is included.
All 27 known species are listed with whatever information is currently available as to size, colour and natural habitat.
